Dishwashing Liquid - Blood Out of Pants

This next experiment was long overdue and I was surprised at the results.  Everyone has talked about what a great laundry pre-treater the Norwex Dishwashing Liquid is.  I'm always hesitant to experiment with our clothing, we don't have that much of it!  But, it was time to give it a try.

My son apparently picked at a scab on his arm then dabbed it all over his pants while sitting in his crib.

I put some pre-treater on them.  On the top portion I used Shout Advanced.  This is a product I have used for a while.  I have found it the best at getting stains out of our clothes.

On the bottom portion I used the Norwex Dishwashing Liquid.

I didn't let them sit for too long before throwing them in the wash.
I was very surprised by two things:
#1: The Shout did not remove the spots.  They aren't red any more but I could still clearly see them
#2: The Dishwashing Liquid did remove the spots.  I was pleasantly surprised.

I pre-treated the rest of the spots with the Dishwashing Liquid.  They ended up sitting for a couple of days before they went through the wash.

The results.  No more spots!

Cleaning Your Face

Norwex's mission isn't just to radically reduce the use of chemicals in your home, it includes radically reducing the use of chemicals in your personal life.

We all know we should wash our face in the morning and in the evening before going to bed.  Norwex makes this very easy to do with just water!  You may have seen my post, Back to Basics, where I show how Norwex microfiber easily removes butter from windows.  There are several options for getting the makeup, oil, and daily grime off of your face in much the same way.

Norwex has the Makeup Removal Cloth (set of 3).  They are antibacterial suede clothes so they are very smooth and gentle on your skin yet can remove all of your make up with just water, even waterproof mascara!  They are 8" x 8" in size. You can wash your face, rinse it out, hang it up to dry, and use it again tomorrow night.  People with very sensitive skin tend to prefer these over the other options.

My personal favorite is the Body Pack (set of 3).  These are antibacterial microfiber cloths.  They are not as smooth as the Makeup Removal Cloths so you get a little more exfoliation action with them.  I know people who have started using these and were able to stop using their much more expensive acne treatment.  They remove all makeup, including waterproof mascara.   They are 12" x 12" in size and come in either the natural set of colors or the vibrant colors (pink, green, & yellow).  You can use one of the cloths for several nights before you have to throw it in the wash.

I have heard that other consultants recommend the Baby Body Pack.  They are similar to the Body Pack above, but smaller in size (8" x 8").  These are also antibacterial microfiber and give a little more exfoliation action than the Makeup Removal Cloth.  I love using the Baby Body Pack on my kids faces to remove the sunscreen and sweat before putting them to bed.

Note:  All of these cloths have a 2 year warranty!

Cleaning Paste: Stainless Steel Appliances

This is another post compliments of my friend Julia.  At her party, she commented that the stuff she was using on her stainless steel appliances left streaks.  She was using a cleaner and it left a residue on her appliances, as most cleaners do on any surface no matter how well you wipe them down afterward.

I took the Cleaning Paste, Enviro Cloth, and Window Cloth and started wiping off her dishwasher.  The residue came off and you could see the actual stainless steel color again.  Once Julia got her party goods a couple of weeks later, she finished cleaning the dishwasher.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
The upper right corner of the door is the area that I cleaned at her party a couple of weeks prior.  You can see the actual stainless steel color.  The darker gray color on the rest of the door is caused by the residue from the cleaner.
Julia used her Cleaning Paste, Enviro Cloth, and Window Cloth to clean and polish her dishwasher.  No more residue!
I had the same problem with my stainless steel appliances and had pretty much given up on cleaning them, I was just so frustrated.  It wasn't until I used the Cleaning Paste to remove the residue that they looked nice again.  Now, I rarely use the Cleaning Paste on them.  Just a wet Envrio Cloth and the Window Cloth clean and polish them right up.
Note: You do not want to use the Cleaning Paste on brushed stainless steel as it can scratch.  Also, always rub with the grain on your stainless steel appliances.
Descaler: Kitchen Faucet
This one is a bit embarrassing but I know we all have hidden grossness in our house somewhere.
One of the water streams from my kitchen faucet was spraying a little wonky.  I took a look...
...I almost wish I hadn't.
GROSS!!!!
I flipped the screen over the Descaler nozzle so I'd get foam.
I let is sit for 5 minutes then wiped it with an Enviro Cloth.  That couldn't get around all the little nozzles so I used my cleaning toothbrush.
After a minute with the toothbrush, it was clean!  No more wonky streams of water either.
For more information on the Descaler and how it works, go to my previous post: Descaler - Mineral Build-Up Around Faucet.
Descaler - Mineral Build-Up Around Faucet
I wish I could show you how well the Descaler worked on our shower doors but they're frosted so pictures don't show much.  We could definitely feel the build-up though.  My husband was surprised how easy it was.  Just sprayed it on and wiped it off.  We also didn't get blasted out of the bathroom by the fumes.
Instead of shower pictures, I cleaned up my bathroom sink.  I get a ring of mineral build-up around the hot water handle.
I always try to see what can be wiped away with just a wet Enviro Cloth first.   That got rid of some of the gunk but there was still the mineral build-up left behind.
I sprayed it with the Descaler and let it sit for 5 minutes.  Since I had some time and a free hand, I used the wet Enviro Cloth to wipe down the faucet, sink, counter-top, and toothpaste spots from our dark cabinetry,  all while blow-drying my hair.  All in all, a pretty productive morning.  I’m going to have to remember that trick.  I love multitasking!
Anyway, after 5 minutes were up, I used the  Envrio Cloth to wipe away the mineral build-up.  Gone!  And the rest of my bathroom looks pretty good too after just 5 minutes!
Most descalers are chemical acids.  Read the label, it's full of warnings!  Norwex Descaler is made of enzymes.  Enzymes are proteins produced by all living organisms.   Enzymes are catalyst that speed up a chemical reaction that would otherwise occur at a much slower rate, or not at all.  The enzymes break down the bigger chunks into smaller pieces, which are then digested into carbon dioxide and water and can easily be wiped away.
Since enzymes are naturally occurring, they don't harm the environment like chemical cleaners do.  Enzyme products are biodegradable and non-caustic.
Different enzymes break down different types of materials, hence the reason that we have several different enzyme products (Descaler, Mattress Cleaner, Carpet Stain Buster, Oven & Grill Cleaner, Sportszyme, Laundry Pre-Wash, Refresh Odour Neutralizer, Odour Eliminator)
**Note: Not for use on natural stone such as marble and granite.
